Dear Tom, et. al, An Update.

Still recovering from knee surgery. Unfortunately in addition to nerve damage my body is reacting to the metal and cement used in the knee with resulting severe inflammation and swelling. Sets my recovery back months, as in I am now, at nearly 9 weeks, where I should have been at 3-4 weeks.

On the bright side I was cleared to drive this week. Yay! No longer trapped in my house so I’m a little less stir crazy. You really don’t want to know how stir crazy I had become!

On the less bright side walking around a grocery store is about my limit for the day. So sad!

It’s a good thing I’ve had the Olympics to watch, despite NBC’s pathetic (and I do mean pathetic) coverage.

I’m also watching Fearless on Netflix. I decided to download free Netflix for 30 days so I can watch Fearless and Stranger Things. Fearless is an 8-part documentary about the PBR (bull riding) and Stranger Things is unusual horror, as in I can handle it horror- thoughtful horror- as opposed to creepy nightmarish uncanny valley horror.

So, it’s back to icing, elevating, and… oh… Jake taught himself to fetch my cane! Such a cutie pie!

XOXO! Julia

So sorry to hear about your knee problems, Julia. Maddening as well. I can imagine how trapped you must feel and how frustrated. Sending you lots of positive energy. Hope it heals sooner than what they say. Hugs.

Thanks, Greta. Once Oscar was making me hurry, which I could not do, so the dog grabbed my cane and brought it to me. He is clever!

I had my knees done. I never heard of reacting to the metal and cement. Will they have to redo them? Did they use titanium? Gosh, I am so sorry. Just about every time I see the scars on someone, I stop and chat. It is like a miracle, but so many complications. My left is less flexible than the right so I can’t ride a bike. Mine are about 12 years old. I hope you soon get to enjoy them and ignore them!!

Yes, titanium. It’s called SSS – Second Side Syndrome. The second knee reacts to the materials used and takes longer to heal. This is my first knee replacement but I have titanium and cement in the left from an old injury. Thank you. I’m figuring a year for complete recovery.

Watching an 8-part series on bull riding…oh, yeah, that’s a way to set goals for yourself, Julia. 😉 But at least you can drive now, even though you just walk at the grocery store. Last winter when we had some very bad days, a local senior center had a water pipe break. Until it was fixed and everything cleaned up, every morning from 8-9:00, the center delivered three vans of seniors to Safeway, where they all spent an hour walking up and down aisles. When you think of the new friends you could make, you probably want to stay home and watch more Netflix.

LOL! You just made my day, Marylin! Actually watching bull riding makes me feel bad for the riders. I feel all their injuries. I don’t think I want to walk around Safeway. Ours closed after the earthquake and has yet to reopen. 😉
