Here, let me summarize the reasons why I left the left:
Because I am the boss of me.
Because I have been a victim. Everyone is a victim of something or other. We’re all victims. Survivors get beyond their victim-hood and live their lives– and they don’t then turn around and victimize others.
I agree with Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy~ “Aww, boo-hoo. My wife and child are dead… I don’t care if it’s mean. Everybody’s got dead people! But it makes no excuse to letting everyone else around get killed along the way!”
Because a Holocaust survivor once said to me~ “Everything wants to live.”
Because To Destroy You Is No Loss. May the author rest in peace.
Because toilet paper.

I remember when I was a kid the USSR was always running out of toilet paper~ Seriously. This is a real live Soviet Union joke. I am quoting: “Which is more useful – newspapers or television? A: Newspapers, of course. You can’t wipe your ass with a TV.”

I Don't Think It Means... 
Julia, this is tooooo good! I thought I heard thunder just now, but I realize now that it was Tom laughing! You’re so right; you can’t wipe with a television, but you can wipe with newspaper, though printer’s ink irritation might be a problem. When you daughter makes the varsity tennis team and gets her letter jacket, when the team comes to her house in the wee hours, they can’t t-p the tree outside her window with a television or a newspaper. They used toilet paper!

Sometimes decisions boil down to the simplest things. Toilet paper. Says it all.

Yes, the article was a little convoluted, I mean the writing style, but the meaning was clear. It’s all about the toilet paper. And finger-wagging. And elitism. And re-education. I read a bunch of USSR jokes from back in the day – they are hilarious!

I jumped off the wagon in ’09, Roberta. Altho I have to admit my leftist period was limited. I’m a Dem but was always a moderate. Never voted the party, always the candidate. Write in a candidate if I hate both! 😉

I jumped off in 2006. I wrote Senator Fienstein a letter about the Gulf War. She sent me back a letter on every topic but the Gulf War. So I responded back that she had not answered my question and that I would like an answer to my question.
I never heard back from her. So when I moved a few months later and I changed my address at the Board of Elections I checked unaffliated.
Haven’t looked back yet…..and I still vote for the best person IMHO and vote I, R, and D.

She has responded to me, Roberta. Maybe she learned? I actually like her- one of the few from my area I like. I like Rep Mike Thompson as well. But yes, I vote the best person. Although at this point I’d vote Republican if the candidate was a sea slug.

Ah, Julia, I read the article, and what went through my mind was that there are always people who go to extremes. It doesn’t mean you throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are well meaning people with their hearts in the right place on both sides. The minute we get into ‘us’ and ‘them’ we solidify the lines between us.
I do lean to the left, but I’d say left of center. I like a balance in most things in my life.
As for toilet paper, what’s with that? We were recently in Cuba and heard there was a shortage there as well. The country was socialist until America imposed its embargo and then it turned communism when the only help they could get was from the Russians. Still power corrupts, it seems. You’ve got leaders in both Cuba and Russia, who like to feather their own nest first.

Unfortunately most leaders like to feather their own nests. It’s just that with a tyrannical government you can do it openly. I don’t like either extreme, Diana. I don’t see much difference. I used to lean left center, now I’m right center.
